A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Brian Corbett, President
Parkinson Association of Alabama

More than one million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease, 16,000 in Alabama alone. Additionally, 90,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Unfortunately, between patients, care partners and loved ones, millions of people struggle to find the information, support, and hope for a cure they so desperately need.

I am entering my fourth year serving as your President for the Parkinson Association of Alabama (PAA,) a nonprofit organization founded in 1978 committed to assisting those living with PD, their care partners and families. Care, Community, and Cure...It's what we do.

At the PAA, we have a renewed sense of energy and urgency to provide the support needed by those with Parkinson's and their care partners. We try to strike the balance between funding research locally for a cure and helping those on the journey impacted by Parkinson's now.

We generate funding by hosting many fun-filled events throughout the year that allow for community connectedness and recruitment from our generous community sponsors and individual contributors. With their generosity, we are able to provide even more educational programming, scholarships, care navigation programs and research for a cure -- all of which are kept local to our state. Alabama is fortunate to have one of only four Advanced Care Centers for Parkinson's Research in the U.S. located at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). The PAA continuously provides critical financial support to fund research designed to slow or halt the progression of the disease and find a cure. Our donations to date to UAB are approaching $14 million. Still, more funding is the key to unlock a cure.

Additionally, we have worked hard to revitalize our Care Navigation and Online Resource Center that will serve as your GO TO Resource for everything Parkinson's in Alabama. We will also work to setup the newly diagnosed with a successful start, providing compassionate and tailored content through person-centered Care Navigation sessions.

This is just a start. Imagine what we can accomplish with increased funding and resources dedicated to finding a cure and supporting those with PD on the journey today well. You can help them all by making a personal contribution to the PAA.

We understand that your time is valuable, and we have made your tax-deductible contribution to the PAA quite simple to complete by providing your donation online at the link below:

For those that prefer to pay by check, you can mail it to the Parkinson Association of Alabama, P.O. Box 590146, Birmingham, AL 35259. Please make your check payable to the Parkinson Association of Alabama and include your contact information (Name, Address, Phone and Email) with your contribution. All gifts are tax deductible as allowed by law, and the PAA's Federal Tax ID Number is 31-1467418.

I ask that you support our statewide efforts by making your personal or corporate donation today. Not only will your generosity help provide support to those affected by PD, but it will also have an everlasting impact on the lives of Parkinson's patients in Alabama. On behalf of the PAA, and as a patient myself, I thank you. You are the difference that makes a difference.

Best Regards,

Brian Corbett
