2022 Parkinson’s Disease Patient Symposium

On Saturday, May 14, the PAA hosted our first in-person Parkinson’s Disease Patient Symposium since 2019. The event was held at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum and over 85 people attended.

Topics presented included:

· Caregiving by Brooklyn White,

· Alabama Udall Center Update by Dr. David Standaert, MD, Ph.D., John N. Whitaker Professor & Chair of Neurology,

· Young Onset PD and the Challenges of Being Newly Diagnosed, by Katie Fordham, and,

· Panel Discussion, moderated by Ken Cater.


Dance for PD instructors, Mary Margaret Scalici and Teri Weksler, involved the audience with elements of dance during the morning session. Ann Angell, from Calhoun County Rock Steady Boxing, led PD boxing exercises during the afternoon stretch break.


Our inspirational speaker, John Baumann, presented “What You Can Do Today To Live Your Best Possible Life With (Or Without) Parkinson’s.”
